Murano Glass

Our Murano glass tumblers are born from a centuries-old artisanal tradition that originated on the island of Murano, located in the Venetian lagoon, Italy.

The tradition of Murano glass boasts an ancient and prestigious history, renowned for its refinement and the artistic techniques used in the creation of each piece. Its roots date back to the 8th century, but it was in 1291 that the Republic of Venice, to prevent fires in the city, moved all the furnaces to the island of Murano. From that moment, Murano became the symbol of excellence in the world of artistic glass.

What identifies Murano glass, and has made it famous as artistic glass, is the fact that it is a soft glass. In fact, it is a glass that melts at low temperatures (around 1,100°C) compared to other types of glass such as borosilicate, and it cools slowly, thus giving the master time to shape it by hand.

This type of soft glass is sensitive to temperature changes, and for this reason it requires greater care during processing. At the end of the process, each piece is placed inside a muffle: a special oven that maintains a constant temperature of 500°C, and is then gradually cooled until it reaches room temperature.
